FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Bret Bielema praised former LSU coach Les Miles during Bielema’s appearance on the weekly SEC coaches teleconference.
“I have tremendous respect for Les,” Bielema said. “I had it before I came here and probably reinforced it even more. … I think everybody believes that those SEC meetings, we’re just staring at each other across a table and not talking. There’s a brotherhood and fellowship that’s pretty cool from all of our coaches and anytime this happens, there’s obviously gonna be this moment where you think about him as the complete person he is.”
Bielema fondly recalled conversations with Miles when Arkansas was recruiting Miles’ son, Ben, a class of 2017 fullback who is committed to Nebraska.
“You can see that he’s just like every other father,” Bielema said. “That was a pretty cool moment and in addition to that, just on the field and the recruiting world, his demeanor, his character, his personality, his stand-up attitude and just a class act.
“My guess is he’s not gonna be on the sidelines very long.”
Miles was fired by LSU on Sunday, one day after the Tigers lost at Auburn to drop to 2-2 on the season.
