Brown to visit only Arkansas in January
Arkansas 4-star safety commit Montaric Brown told SEC Country he no longer is considering taking an official visit to Oklahoma or Oklahoma State in January.
Brown (6-foot-1, 175 pounds), who attends Ashdown High School, is the Hogs’ top in-state commit in the class. He told SEC Country last week while in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl he was undecided on plans to visit the Oklahoma programs. The possibility was he would visit Oklahoma State this weekend, then Arkansas and lastly Oklahoma. He says he still will take the visit to Arkansas.
It’s a major relief for the Hogs to apparently no longer worry about holding off the top programs in the Big 12, both of which are coming off 10-win seasons, to sign Brown. Don’t expect the coaching staff to rest easy or other programs to back off until he’s officially signed, presumably on Feb. 1 when National Signing Day arrives.
With Brown and three cornerbacks currently committed, Arkansas could have a strong secondary class if things go its way on Signing Day. Chevin Calloway, a 4-star cornerback, and Kamren Curl, a 3-star safety, are very much in play for the Razorbacks. Both officially will visit Fayetteville this month and are planning to announce their choice on Signing Day.
Basketball signees nominated for McDonald’s All-American Game
Arkansas 2017 basketball signees Daniel Gafford and Khalil Garland are among several nominees for the McDonald’s All-American Game. The game, in its 40th season, is scheduled March 29 in Chicago.
Gafford (6-10, 220), a forward from El Dorado (Ark.) High School, is a 4-star recruit and the No. 1 in-state prospect in the class. Garland (6-6, 195) is a standout for Parkview High School in Little Rock. He is also a 4-star recruit and the state’s No. 2 prospect. Both players signed with the Razorbacks in November.
The official rosters for the McDonald’s game will be announced later.
