Several of Arkansas’ 11 commitments in the 2018 class were in action this weekend. Some had big statistical performances, and others made crucial plays to help lift their respective teams to victory.
Throughout the 2017 season, SEC Country will provide weekly updates on the performances of as many Arkansas commits as possible.
Here’s how they fared this week:
How the Arkansas commits fared (Oct. 18-20)
Bumper Pool, 4-star LB: 21 rushing yards, TD, 2-pt. conversion
Normally a defensive standout, Pool was the key to the game for Lovejoy (Lucas, Texas) on offense in a 28-21 victory over Wylie (Texas) East. His 3-yard rushing touchdown was the game-winner. He added the 2-point conversion run after for the final points of the game.
Lovejoy (2-5) has won two straight games with Pool playing several position (linebacker, quarterback and tight end) both weeks.
Connor Noland, 4-star QB: 15 of 23 passing, 178 yards, TD, INT
Noland was his typically efficient self for Greenwood (Ark.) in a 33-17 victory over Benton (Ark.) on Friday. Fueled by the play of their senior quarterback, the Bulldogs are now 8-0 and have won 31 consecutive regular-season games.
Noland has completed 132 of 195 passes this season (68 percent) for 1,694 yards with 20 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
Byron Hanspard II, 4-star CB: 6 tackles
Hanspard played his part in a dominant defensive performance for DeSoto (Texas) as the Eagles defeated Irving (Texas) 28-0. He now has 31 tackles and an interception this season for 7-0 DeSoto.
Sean Michael Flanagan, 3-star ATH: 2 catches, 99 yards, 2 TD
Both of Flanagan’s receptions (51 and 48 yards) Friday night went for scores as he helped Charleston (Ark.) improve to 8-0 this season.
Tanner McCalister, 3-star CB: 19 carries, 70 yards
McCalister played both sides of the ball for Rockwall (Heath) in a tough 37-33 loss to John Tyler (Texas). McCalister has 991 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 8 yards per carry this season as a running back.
Isaiah Nichols, 3-star DE: 7 tackles
Nichols helped Springdale (Ark.) improved to 5-3 with a win Friday night, equaling its best win total in the past seven seasons. Nichols has 59 tackles through eight games during his senior campaign.
Ty Evans, 3-star QB (2019): 18 for 31, 190 yards, 2 total TD, INT
Evans has Palmer Ridge (Monument, Colo.) off to a 8-0 start after a 26-6 win over Friday. He’s passed for 2,087 yards and 26 touchdowns with just 4 interceptions on the season.
