Welcome back, Arkansas football, you were missed
With your bacon, have some Hogs for Breakfast. It’s SEC Country’s weekday column and roundup on all things Arkansas. Opinion, numbers, inane babble and more! And now with ironic exclamation points! There is no place like it on the web.
You can finally exhale – football is back, baby
No more waiting, y’all. Football is here. Or, well, it will be here in a few hours. Arkansas opens fall camp Thursday evening. A long offseason – for various reasons – is finished. And you know what happens when camp ends? Yep. The season begins. Just one month out now. Aug. 31 vs. Florida A&M.
What’s it take to put Bret Bielema on the hot seat?
The Arkansas coach isn’t there. He doesn’t deserve to be there. But, it’s a question asked often by … well, antsy types. Our Jason Kersey took a look at what exactly might bring it to fruition. This is Arkansas’ worst-case scenario, and, whew, it ain’t pretty.
Next man up
Always happens in a new football season, a player or two or three come out of seemingly nowhere to get some time. Sometimes these guys might be newcomers to the roster, even. Our Trent Shadid took a peek at the five new faces he thinks will have the biggest impact to Arkansas’ season this year.
Randy Ramsey and …?
Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads and the Razorbacks defenders are moving to a base 3-4. That isn’t new news. What everyone is wondering, though, is how can a team that struggled to find linebackers last year, especially outside linebackers, put two on the field at the same time this season? Well, this is how. SEC Country’s positional preview continued Wednesday with that unit.
Saved By the Bell
Readers of a certain age will remember the NBC sitcom featuring n’er-do-well Zack Morris at Bayside High School. Well, Mr. Morris is shortly headed to the University of Arkansas. No, not the same guy. But an Arkansas baseball commit – and Cabot High product – with the name of Zack Morris committed to the Diamond Hogs on Wednesday. And coach Wes Johnson, if you’re reading this, you have to — have to, have to — give him the nickname “Preppy.”
Can Koilan Jackson follow in his father’s footsteps?
Arkansas wide receiver Koilan Jackson is highly thought of as a future player with the Razorbacks. His father Keith, an Arkansas native (but Oklahoma collegian), made himself a heck of a career up to the NFL. Koilan has a ways to go, but it starts soon.
These hoops press releases aren’t actually blowing smoke
A lot of Sports Information press releases are filled with puffery, making things out to be better than they actually are. And that’s fine. This time, though, when Arkansas says its home basketball schedule is the best of the Mike Anderson era, the releases aren’t lying. The Razorbacks added another legit opponent to the slate Wednesday.

My top three: Andrew Benintendi, Barry Switzer and — he’s not listed as available, but — Jeff Long. I’m buying, Jeff. Gimme a holler at 479-3 … never mind.

Listen, eat your pizza in the nude if you want. But don’t open the door for the delivery person to hand it to in your birthday suit.
Apparently you’ll be ticketed for it. Which is kind of odd considering it’s your own home, but whatever. It’s hilarious and strange, regardless.
