FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The person who yelled crass language at Arkansas coach Bret Bielema from the stands and subsequently was arrested after Saturday night’s game has been identified as Lawton Lanier Nalley, an assistant professor of agricultural economics and agribusiness at the University of Arkansas.
As Bielema walked off the field after his team’s 49-30 loss to No. 1 Alabama, Nalley screamed that if he had a resume like Bielema’s, he would be fired.
University of Arkansas police officers spoke to Nalley, who continued with his erratic behavior and was eventually handcuffed and arrested.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Nalley was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He was booked at 11:09 p.m. CT and released almost 40 minutes later.
Per Nalley’s faculty page on the University of Arkansas’ official website, he is a Georgia native who has received degrees from Ohio State, Mississippi State and Kansas State. His biography notes that his “current research emphasis is on international agricultural policy, the economics of public plant breeding, and international development.”
As of Sunday morning, Nalley had not responded to an email from SEC Country seeking comment.
