FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Razorbacks added a late addition to its 2017 recruiting class Tuesday morning with the commitment of kicker Blake Mazza.
The Plano (Texas) High School prospect worked with Chris Sailer Kicking and according to its website, his only scholarship offer was from Army. Mazza will join the Razorbacks as a preferred walk-on.

Mazza will have an early opportunity to earn playing time, though. It is expected that Arkansas will go with junior Cole Hedlund as its placekicker to begin 2017, but Hedlund has been extremely inconsistent throughout his career. He was replaced last year in the middle of the season by senior Adam McFain.
According to Mazza’s Chris Sailer Kicking profile, he “shows that he can be a dependable punter.” Considering the recent news about Blake Johnson, it stands to reason that Mazza could have an opportunity in that role as well.
