Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. In this edition, we discuss the Hogs’ newest commitments and interest coming from Georgia teammates.
Arkansas lands 2 commitments after hosting several top targets
Arkansas hosted several of its top 2019 recruiting targets for official visits to Fayetteville over the weekend. Fans approached the weekend with plenty of cautious optimism.
New coach Chad Morris and his staff already had proved they could bring top recruits to campus for an exciting weekend. But fans wondered when, or if, any big-time commitments would fall into place as a result. What the fans had been waiting for happened Saturday when the Razorbacks received commitments from wide receiver Shamar Nash and defensive end Mataio Soli.
Nash (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) was one of four 247Sports composite 4-star prospects visiting. He had been committed to Missouri before flipping his pledge to the Hogs. The IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) recruit also had reported offers from Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Soli (6-3, 230) doesn’t have a recruiting rating that necessarily will get Arkansas fans excited. He’s a 3-star prospect and isn’t even listed among the top 100 recruits from Georgia in his class. But his offer list suggests the Hogs will be getting a talent far better than those ratings would suggest. He chose the Razorbacks over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame and well over 30 more than FBS schools.
Arkansas is now up to six commitments in the class, a number that is right where the Hogs probably expect to be at this time. More importantly, the new staff just proved capable of beating out some major programs for top targets. That’s what Arkansas fans hoped Morris could do when he was hired. Now, there are some results to support that hope.
Hogs high on list for Georgia teammates
Offensive lineman Reece McIntyre has made his top-5 list, with Arkansas making the cut. McIntyre (6-5, 290) is a 3-star recruit in the 2019 class from Buford, Ga. He also put Florida, Missouri, North Carolina State and Ole Miss on his list. His full offer list includes 14 Power 5 programs. He visited Ole Miss last weekend.
McIntyre’s teammate — 4-star Buford running back Derrian Brown — also is showing high interest in the Hogs. He has the Razorbacks among his top-10 choices after recently trimming his list from 34 offers.
