Bret Bielema: Austin Allen is ‘progressing nicely’ ahead of Ole Miss game

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema gave an encouraging update on Razorbacks starting quarterback Austin Allen on his radio show Thursday night.

Bielma said Allen threw the ball more than 150 times on Wednesday and is “progressing quite nicely” from a shoulder injury that has kept him out of the lineup in recent weeks. Allen hasn’t played since Arkansas’ loss to South Carolina on Oct. 7.

Bielema sounded confident Arkansas would have Allen’s services against the Rebels but stopped short of making it official. He had similar comments on Wednesday, saying “I think he can get out there” against Ole Miss.

“The question would be whether he’s at risk to reinjure it or re-aggravate it again and whether he can make all the throws,” Bielema said Wednesday.

The Razorbacks have lost handily since Allen went down with an injury to his throwing shoulder vs the Gamecocks. First, it was a 41-9 defeat on the road against Alabama, then last week Auburn defeated the Hogs in Fayetteville, 52-20.

So far this season, the senior has completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 850 yards and 8 touchdowns.
