Reggie Mitchell, prepare for your first taste of the SEC.
Arkansas has landed Mitchell, Kansas’ running backs coach and recruiting coordinator, a source told Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans.
Mitchell recently wrapped up his sixth season with the Jayhawks, where he coached running backs each year and served as the recruiting coordinator every season except for 2012-13.
The coach with more than three decades of experience, Mitchell previously had stints at Central Michigan (1983), Ferris State (1984), Michigan (1985), Western Michigan (1986), Kent State (1987), Minnesota (1997-98), Michigan State (1999, 2000-04) and Illinois (2005-09) before heading to Kansas for a second tour of duty.
He has never coached in the SEC.
Under Mitchell’s guidance, Kansas running back James Sims finished his career third all-time on the university’s rushing chart and became the school’s first player to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons.
Mitchell has coached a variety of other positions, too, including wide receivers and defensive line.
It is unclear what Mitchell will be coaching on Bret Bielema’s staff.
