GREENVILLE, S.C. – Arkansas will play North Carolina in the second round of the South Region at Bon Secours Arena on Sunday at 5:10 p.m. (CT), it was announced by the NCAA late Friday night.
The eighth-seeded Razorbacks beat Seton Hall on Friday, 77-71, to advance to the Round of 32. Top-seeded North Carolina easily dispatched 16-seed Texas Southern, 103-64, to join them. The winner of Sunday’s game advances to the Round of 16 in Memphis, Tennessee, where they will play the winner of (12)Middle Tennessee State and (4)Butler.
This is the third straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Razorbacks in which they faced North Carolina in the Round of 32. The Tar Heels eliminated Arkansas in 2015 and in 2008.
The last five times Arkansas and North Carolina have met have actually come in the NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks last beat UNC in 1995 in the Final Four. Corliss Williamson had 21 points and 10 rebounds in leading Nolan Richardson’s team to the national title game.
