FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks podcast with Jason Kersey and Trent Shadid. On this episode, we talked about the 5-year anniversary of Bobby Petrino’s firing and how the Razorbacks are still rebuilding from that mess.
SEC Country launched the Borderline Erotic Podcast on Aug. 29, 2016. It is named after the colorful way Arkansas coach Bret Bielema described how he felt after beating Texas in the 2014 Texas Bowl.
Here is a quick rundown on some of the topics we discuss on this, the 145th episode of the Borderline Erotic Podcast.
Petrino fiasco still lingers
Jason opened this episode by discussing his strange — possibly NyQuil-induced — dream that Bret Bielema had left Arkansas to become the new Stanford football coach. That led into a discussion about the fact that Monday is the 5-year anniversary of Jeff Long firing Bobby Petrino. Jason and Trent agreed that Long made the right call, although there are probably lots of fans who would have been OK with keeping Petrino because of the remarkable success he had in Fayetteville.
Five years later, Arkansas football still has not reached the same level of success it enjoyed in Petrino’s final 2 seasons. How long will fans remain patient with Bret Bielema? And how long is the Petrino fiasco a legitimate excuse?
Will the defense be better?
We spent a little time talking about the Arkansas defense, which had trouble against the run during the first scrimmage of the spring Saturday. We may not really know how much better the Arkansas defense is until the Razorbacks play TCU on Sept. 9.
A hoops transfer?
We wrapped up this episode by discussing the possibility that Miami (Ohio) guard Michael Weathers could transfer into the Arkansas basketball program.
