FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks podcast with Jason Kersey, Eric Bolin and Trent Shadid. On this episode, we discuss the Arkansas basketball team’s NCAA Tournament showing, the idea of allowing guns at Razorbacks athletic events, spring football and baseball.
SEC Country launched the Borderline Erotic Podcast on Aug. 29, 2016. It is named after the colorful way Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema described how he felt after beating Texas in the 2014 Texas Bowl.
Here is a quick rundown on some of the topics we discussed on this, the 134rd episode of the Borderline Erotic Podcast.
Future looks bright for Arkansas, SEC basketball
Because all 3 of us were traveling last week, we never had the chance to discuss Arkansas’ NCAA Tournament appearance on the podcast. The guys opened this episode by talking about the Hogs’ appearance which, all things considered, was very strong.
And it isn’t just Arkansas that comes out of this thing looking good. The SEC — typically considered a weak basketball conference — put 3 teams in the Elite Eight. The future of SEC basketball looks strong.
As for the Razorbacks, they lose 3 of their 5 best players next season but are expected to bring back Daryl Macon and Jaylen Barford. Those guys, combined with a strong recruiting class, should keep at least keep the Hogs from taking a step back next year. According to Eric, Arkansas should expect to be a top-5 SEC basketball program into the foreseeable future.
Guns at games a bad idea
We then turned to the big news out of Arkansas last week — that guns might be allowed at Razorbacks athletic events. The state senate voted to exclude sporting events from the new law, but that still needs to be approved by the house and the governor.
The guys all agreed that putting politics aside, this remains a bad idea for a variety of reasons. But beyond the public safety arguments, a law like this could negatively affect recruiting. Arkansas players expressed opposition to it on Twitter. Something like this might also cause the NCAA to not allow postseason events in the state.
Spring football begins!
The guys then discussed Arkansas spring football, which begins this week in Fayetteville. What are some things that fans should keep an eye on over the next month?
Bielema will address the media on Monday afternoon and the Hogs practice Tuesday for the first time this spring.
Baseball team off to great start
We wrapped up this episode of the podcast with some baseball talk. After taking 2 of 3 at Missouri over the weekend, Arkansas sits atop the SEC standings.
After such a disappointing season last year, this looks like a baseball team more than capable of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
