FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — At 6-foot-1, Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen is considered undersized by the standards of his position.
As a result, he became a fan of generously-listed 6-foot New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Allen said Thursday night as a guest on coach Bret Bielema’s weekly radio show he’s tried to “emulate” his game after the Super Bowl XLIV MVP and three-time first-team All-Pro.
“I’m not very tall and he’s not very tall, so I’ve always liked watching him play,” Allen said.
He added that he also looks up to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Allen leads the SEC in touchdown passes so far this season with 15 and has thrown for 1,632 yards with a 63.6 completion percentage. He was a midseason addition to the watch list for he Manning Award, given annually to college football’s top quarterback.
