Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. In this edition, we discuss a Louisiana wide receiver target and a 2020 in-state quarterback landing a major offer.
Arkansas WR target Kyle Maxwell expected to visit Fayetteville soon
Arkansas offensive coordinator Joe Craddock and wide receivers coach Justin Stepp recently made a stop at Amite High School in Southeast Louisiana. By the time the pair of coaches left, they’d offered 2019 Amite wide receiver Kyle Maxwell.
The Hogs’ offer and subsequent contact with the coaching staff immediately put them among Maxwell’s top choices, according to a report from SEC Country’s Sam Spiegelman. Arkansas is joined by Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Tennessee and Tulane.
Maxwell (6-foot-3, 182 pounds) is expected to attend a camp in Fayetteville in early June. That trip should allow the Hogs to get a better idea of where he should be on their priority list.
Though most schools, including Arkansas, are recruiting him as a receiver, some believe he could be a defensive back. The Razorbacks staff under Chad Morris is showing high interest in recruiting taller prospects at both those spots, which makes Maxwell such an intriguing target.
Maxwell — a 3-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite — is also expected to attend a camp at LSU. According to Spiegelman’s report, Maxwell intends to make a commitment decision and shut down his recruitment shortly after his upcoming trips. He made unofficial visits to Kentucky and Tennessee in late March.
Arkansas is also recruiting fellow Amite wide receiver Devonta Lee, a 4-star prospect. Though he’s a long shot for the Hogs, Lee (6-2, 212) did visit Fayetteville in early April. He also has Arkansas among his top choices.
With Maxwell and Lee at least considering Arkansas, it seems clear the Hogs are making some positive connections at Amite. Even if that doesn’t pay off in the 2019 class, it’s never a bad thing to build relationships at such a talent-rich school.
In-state 2020 QB Jacolby Criswell lands Power 5 offer
Jacolby Criswell — Arkansas’ top quarterback recruit in the 2020 class — has received his first Power 5 offer. It’s not from the Razorbacks, though that very well could change.
Criswell (6-2, 205) was offered by N.C. State last Friday. His offer list also includes Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Memphis and South Alabama. The Morrilton quarterback is a 4-star prospect according to 247Sports.
The day before Criswell landed his first Power 5 offer, he dominated in Morrilton’s spring game. He was 22-of-35 passing with 405 yards, 6 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 32 yards on 10 attempts.
Though Arkansas hasn’t offered, it’s still very possible he becomes the Hogs’ 2020 quarterback target in the coming months. With continued development, his dual-threat ability makes him a potential great fit in the Razorbacks offense.
Criswell has visited Fayetteville twice in recent months. His half-brother, Dre Greenlaw, is a senior linebacker for the Hogs. Greenlaw came away impressed after watching his brother perform last week, and has even put in a recruiting pitch to the staff for his younger brother.
As a sophomore last season, Criswell threw for 1,947 yards and 20 touchdowns with 4 interceptions.
