Arkansas RB target Mychale Salahuddin undecided on top schools, plans to visit Razorbacks
Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. This time, we discuss running back target Mychale Salahuddin and a new 2018 defensive offer.
Salahuddin expects to visit Arkansas in near future
Woodson High School (Washington, D.C.) 2018 running back Mychale Salahuddin has spent much of 2017 fielding an abundance of new offers. He’s received 15 since Jan. 4 and now has 18 total.
Arkansas offered Jan. 24, becoming the first SEC to do so. The Razorbacks are joined by Kentucky, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin among the schools joining the race for his commitment over the past two months.
Salahuddin (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) hasn’t pruned his offer list to any top choices. He expects to take trips to a variety of different schools before deciding where he may fit best.
“(The offers) were something that I kind of was expecting, but I didn’t think it would come this quick,” Salahuddin recently told SEC Country. “I’ll probably take a trip down to V-Tech, then Penn State on (Feb.) 25th. I’m planning to take a bus tour to all the South schools in the spring.
“I should definitely be taking a trip to Arkansas. I just need to get that sorted out.”
Arkansas running backs coach Reggie Mitchell has been the primary contact for Salahuddin. He is one of five running backs in the class the Hogs have offered.
In addition to running back, Salahuddin played strong safety and returned kicks as a junior. He says he’s definitely looking to play running back at the next level.
“Nice one-cut ability, open-field speed, able to read my blocks to find the holes,” Salahuddin said of his top attributes as a running back. “On the defensive side of the ball, I look to take the other player out of the play and have some playmaking ability.”
Salahuddin rushed for 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He added 35 tackles and 3 interceptions on defense. He’ll enter his senior season with the goal of nearly doubling his output at running back.
“I’m looking for 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns next season,” Salahuddin said.
Hogs offer Texas DE prospect Ossai
Arkansas offered Oak Ridge High School (Conroe, Texas) 2018 defensive end Joseph Ossai on Thursday, according to Oak Ridge recruiting coordinator Kevin Goodwin.
Ossai (6-4, 217) is a 3-star recruit and an exceptional pass rusher on film. His 10 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks as a junior were both team highs. He had 46 total tackles. Baylor, Colorado, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas A&M are also among his 16 reported FBS offers.
Though he’s listed as a defensive end and played that spot in a 3-4 defense last season, the Razorbacks are almost certainly viewing him as an outside linebacker in their 3-4 system.
