Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. This time, we discuss special honors for two commits and some weekend visitors.
Arkansas commits invited to Opening, Under Armour game
Two of Arkansas’ four 2018 commits received some big news on Sunday.
Tight end Luke Ford was impressive enough at Nike’s The Opening regional camp in Chicago to receive an invite to the camp finals in Oregon this summer. Evaluators determine the 166 invitees to the finals camp, which is widely considered the top showcase of talent in each recruiting class. Arkansas 2017 running back signee Chase Hayden participated in the camp finals last year.
Ford (6-foot-7, 250 pounds) is the a 3-star recruit, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is from Carterville, Ill., and committed to the Razorbacks last month. He chose Arkansas over offers from programs such as Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Oklahoma.
Also on Sunday, 4-star cornerback commit Byron Hanspard II announced he had received and accepted an invitation to participate in the 2018 Under Armour All-American game. Chevin Calloway, who signed with the Hogs’ 2017 class, played in the game last January.
Hanspard (6-1, 180) committed to the Razorbacks in March, the day after Ford announced his pledge. His other offers include Colorado, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon and Texas Tech.
Condon has ‘great’ visit
Bishop McGuinness (Oklahoma City) 2018 offensive lineman Owen Condon tells SEC Country he had a “great” visit to Fayetteville over the weekend.
Condon (6-7, 315) arrived on Friday with his mom. He spent Saturday touring campus, visiting with the coaching staff and watching the Hogs’ third practice of the spring. It was the first time on campus for his mom. Condon’s father made a trip with him to campus last November.
A major priority in the class for Arkansas, Condon expects to narrow his choices later this spring and announce a commitment in the summer. Georgia, Oklahoma State and TCU are among his other offers. The current expectation is the Hogs will at least remain in contention until Condon makes a decision.
Trio of LSU commits attend practice
Three LSU commits were also among the Class of 2018 visitors at practice Saturday.
Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport, La.) defensive prospects Davin Cotton, Micah Baskerville and Ar’Darius Washington made the trip to Fayetteville. The trio announced their pledge to LSU on Feb. 18 during the Tigers’ annual “Boys From The Boot” junior day event.
Cotton (6-3, 290) is a 4-star defensive tackle, Baskerville (6-3, 220) a 3-star linebacker and Washington (5-10, 175) a 3-star defensive back. None of the three have reported offers from the Razorbacks.
