Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. In this edition, we discuss the off week, a commit with a big victory and more.
Arkansas DT commit Emmit Gooden has 9 tackles in win over defending JUCO champs
Arkansas commit Emmit Gooden played a vital role Saturday for Independence (Kan.) Community College in a 27-23 victory over defending NJCAA national champion Garden City (Kan.) Community College.
The defensive tackle had 9 tackles as the main cog in the middle of Independence’s defense. Independence (2-1) snapped Garden City’s 13-game winning streak. Garden City was No. 3 in the NJCAA top 20 last week. Independence received votes, but was not ranked.
Through three games this season, Gooden has 20 tackles. He’s a 3-star recruit and the No. 7 overall JUCO prospect in the class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Arkansas coaches making commits a priority during off week
Arkansas’ coaching staff isn’t sitting around licking its wounds after a 28-7 loss to TCU at home Saturday. Instead, they’re taking some time to work on the future of the program.
With the off week here, many of the coaches headed out Sunday night to destinations across the country. They’ll be in schools recruiting Monday and Tuesday before heading back to Fayetteville, Ark., for practices. At least some of the staff will be back out recruiting Wednesday and Thursday, and several will attend high school games Friday night.
The 12 current 2018 commits will be a top priority. All are expected to receive a visit from at least one member of the coaching staff this week.
Coach Bret Bielema is expected to make stops at several schools in the Dallas area later in the week. The Razorbacks have four commits — Byron Hanspard II, Bumper Pool, Tanner McCalister and Maureese Wren — in the Dallas area.
The staff is likely to be in nearby states Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Colorado is also a strong possibility with 2019 quarterback Ty Evans in Monument, Colo.
They may be prevented from making trips to Florida and Georgia — both states they would ideally visit this week — because of Hurricane Irma. The same may be true for Houston, as the city continues recovering from Hurricane Harvey.
Who visited last weekend
The Razorbacks hosted several recruits, committed and uncommitted, over the weekend. Obviously, it’s a negative not to be able to come away with a victory in front of recruits.
Not all was lost, though, as most of the visitors indicated to SEC Country or on social media they enjoyed the trip.
Here’s the list of all the notable recruits who were on campus.
