Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. In this edition, we discuss the latest 2018 commit, a tight end target and the top schools for a 2019 4-star wide receiver.
Arkansas gets fourth Dallas-area commit in 2018 class
Arkansas landed commitment No. 12 in its 2018 class Wednesday evening when outside linebacker Maureese Wren announced his pledge.
A 3-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite, Wren attends Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas. The school is just less than 20 miles from downtown Dallas, making him the fourth Razorbacks pledge in the class from the talent-rich area.
Wren joins Bumper Pool (4-star LB), Byron Hanspard II (4-star CB) and Tanner McCalister (3-star CB) as a commit from North Texas. All four are among the top 27 prospects in the Dallas area for the 2018 class according to the Dallas Morning News. No other school on that list has more than two commits within the top 30.
The 2007 class marked the last time Arkansas signed four or more players from the Dallas area.
Arkansas gauging interest from 2018 TE Anthony Torres
Arkansas has been in contact with 2018 tight end Anthony Torres despite his commitment to Iowa.
The 3-star prospect from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) committed to the Hawkeyes on July 12. He committed to Iowa over Indiana, Cincinnati, Central Florida and several other FBS programs.
Torres (6-foot-6, 238 pounds) spent last season at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind. He was offered by the Razorbacks on Tuesday. He is the sixth tight end in the class to receive an offer from the Hogs.
Two other offered tight ends that remain uncommitted — 4-star prospect Luke Ford and 3-star recruit Glenn Beal — are considered higher-priority targets. Ford was committed to Arkansas for three months before de-committing in June. Beal visited campus last week and came away impressed.
4-star 2019 WR Trejan Bridges puts Arkansas in top 11
Wide receiver Trejan Bridges has narrowed his list of 20 offers to 11 schools, with Arkansas making the cut.
Bridges (6-1, 174) is a 4-star prospect in the 2019 class. He attends Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, the same school as former Razorbacks defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. He had more than 800 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns as a sophomore.
