Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. Today, we discuss a defensive back target and a top prospect pushing back his commitment announcement.
Lance Robinson high on Arkansas as he awaits offer
De La Salle (New Orleans) 2018 defensive back Lance Robinson is hopeful an offer from Arkansas will come early next week.
Wide receivers coach Michael Smith, the primary recruiter of Louisiana, stopped by De La Salle earlier this week to check in on Robinson. The 3-star prospect (according to 247Sports composite rankings) came away from a conversation with Smith confident that an offer is forthcoming.
“I talked to Coach Smith a couple days ago and they are having a meeting Monday to see if I’m gonna have that offer,” Robinson told SEC Country’s Jason Kersey on Wednesday.
“I’m really confident that I’ll have that offer Monday.”
An offer from the Razorbacks would be Robinson’s second from a SEC program after South Carolina became his 24th overall earlier this week. If the Hogs’ coaches opt to extend one, they’d immediately become a top contender for his commitment.
“I like Arkansas,” Robinson said. “I like the way that program is going. It’s going in the right direction. It’s not in a downfall. It’s going up. I like that school a lot.”
Robinson entered March with just five offers. He says things have been “crazy” ever since, as his offer list has rapidly grown since.
“I had around four, and then all in one week I just started getting a new offer every single day,” Robinson said. “It’s not really overwhelming, because I feel like I worked for this moment. I was prepared for it. Sooner or later I knew I’d get here, and here I am.”
4-star QB Gerry Bohanon Jr. delays decision
Earle (Ark.) 4-star quarterback Gerry Bohanon Jr. was supposed to announce his commitment decision Friday. That is no longer the case.
The top 2018 prospect in Arkansas announced Wednesday evening he will delay the decision and instead release his top 5 schools.
“After a lot of thought, continued prayer, and talks with my parents and coaches,” Bohanon posted to Twitter, “I’ve decided to postpone my commitment and release my top 5 in no particular order on Friday, May 19. This is what is best for me and my family and I thank all of my supporters and fans.”
Bohanon (6-4, 220) confirmed to SEC Country earlier this week he planned to announce his commitment following Earle’s spring game Friday. At that time, he did not state which of his 13 offers were still in consideration. He expected to do that at some point this week.
In an interview with SEC Country earlier this month, Bohanon spoke highly of Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State and Louisville.
The Razorbacks were falling out of consideration until recently. The coaching staff confirmed to Bohanon in late April its intention to sign him as a quarterback, his preferred position. He’s been viewed as a linebacker by some, though he says every school is now recruiting him as a quarterback.
