FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas sophomore Randy Ramsey is back on scholarship.
Ramsey — who played some as a true freshman in 2014 before being dismissed from the team the following spring for academic reasons — rejoined the Hogs as a walk-on during the offseason. He missed the entire 2015 campaign.
Coaches moved Ramsey from linebacker to defensive end this summer, and Monday, Ramsey’s brief time as a walk-on came to an end. He tweeted that he’d signed new scholarship papers.
Arkansas spokesman Patrick Pierson later confirmed the news to SEC Country.
Signed my new scholarship papers today ????????????.#wps?

“He’s always flashed some ability with speed and quickness on the edge, especially when we blitzed him at linebacker,” Arkansas defensive coordinator Robb Smith said of Ramsey on Sunday. “We think we can take that explosiveness and translate that into a good pass rusher. He’s excited about it, which is the most important thing.
“They’ll certainly be a niche for him. Randy’s a guy that we’ve always tried to find a way to be a part of things, because he’s always practiced well. It’s our job as coaches to find the right spot for him on the field.”
