This is what you would call rigged scheduling.
Arkansas women’s tennis sat at 10-16 on the season, but made it to the semifinals of the SEC tournament last week and now have a chance at an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. The only problem? To be eligible for the NCAA’s, you must have a record at .500 or better.
The Razorbacks took care of that problem, and it comes in the most unbelievable way: scheduling the same team, Tennessee State, for six matches … on the same day, per Deadspin.com.
Yes, in what has to be a first in the history of women’s collegiate tennis, the same two teams met six times on Sunday, with the Razorbacks winning them all to reach 16-16.
Why Tennessee State? The Tigers were a woeful 1-8 in Ohio Valley Conference play and were easily overmatched by the Razorbacks.
I suppose good luck to the Razorbacks if they are to get a bid to the NCAA Tournament, but this is certainly a rotten way to reach it.
