Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook. In this edition, we discuss a junior college outside linebacker who was at the game last Saturday and more.
Arkansas in contention for OLB Bryant Pirtle Jr.
Arkansas’ push for a junior college linebacker prospect has increased considerably in recent weeks. That’s no surprise considering the Razorbacks’ 2-5 start (0-4 in SEC) to the 2017 season. The quickest fix to the spots needing immediate help can often be found at the JUCO level.
The Hogs began heavily pursuing three JUCO recruits within the past month — outside linebacker Bryant Pirtle Jr., and offensive linemen Noah Banks and Jahmir Johnson. Banks has already taken an official visit to Fayetteville (Sept. 30) and Johnson plans to do the same next month.
Pirtle gave Arkansas some good news last Friday, announcing the Hogs as one of his top 5 choices. The Razorbacks are joined on that list by Arizona, Oregon, Texas A&M and Utah. He narrowed his list from 24 offers.
A linebacker at Pima Community College in Tusson, Ariz., Pirtle has 3.5 sacks this season. He had 29 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks as a freshman last season. He is rated as a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports composite.
Pirtle received offers from Arizona and Western Kentucky coming out of DeSales High School in Louisville, Ky., in 2015. He had 42 sacks over his final two seasons at DeSales. Since high school, he’s grown 2 inches and added 25 pounds. He’s now listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds.

Top in-state recruit Gerry Bohanon Jr. visits Baylor
Arkansas 4-star quarterback target Gerry Bohanon Jr. took an unofficial visit to Baylor on Saturday. Bohanon was on hand for the Bears’ 38-36 loss to West Virginia in Waco, Texas.
Bohanon recently told SEC Country he plans to officially visit Arkansas during the weekend of Nov. 3-5. The Razorbacks play host to Coastal Carolina on Nov. 4.
From Earle, Ark., Bohanon is the No. 1 recruit in Arkansas for the 2018 class. He announced Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, Louisville, Mississippi State and Ole Miss as his final choices last May. He’s since decided to reopen his recruitment to all schools, though those six remain near the top of his list. LSU, where he visited earlier this month, has also emerged as a possibility for Bohanon.
