Bret Bielema’s seat continues to get hotter.
While it may not have reached the level of Tennessee coach Butch Jones, the Arkansas coach certainly appears to be trying to save his job entering the final five games of the season. The Razorbacks lost to Auburn, 52-20, this past Saturday, falling to 2-5. They’re also 0-4 against SEC opponents this year.
What can Bielema do to save his job for next season? Well, according to CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli, the answer may be nothing.
Fornelli pointed out Monday that Arkansas could potentially get to a bowl game by beating Ole Miss, Coastal Carolina and Missouri, as well as upsetting either LSU or Mississippi State. However, Fornelli says that even a 4-1 finish may not save Bielema’s job.
“I just don’t know if that would be enough, and given Bielema’s history at Arkansas, it doesn’t seem to be a likely scenario anyway,” Fornelli wrote.
Arkansas would reportedly have to pay $5.9 million to buy out Bielema’s contract at the end of the season.
The Razorbacks have lost three games in a row. They’ll look to snap that losing skid when they travel to Ole Miss this Saturday at noon ET on SEC Network.
