One CBS Sports writer doesn’t view Bret Bielema to be “a hot-seat guy.”
Speaking to Bo Mattingly of Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly on Thursday, CBS Sports’ Ben Kercheval said he doesn’t consider the Arkansas coach to be on the hot seat entering the 2017 season. As relayed by Mattingly, Kercheval said Bielema has “had a lot of highs and lows, so it’s hard to get a read on him.”
Kercheval: I don’t consider Bret Bielema a hot-seat guy. He’s just had a lot of highs and lows, so it’s hard to get a read on him at Ark.

It’s definitely hard to get a read on the coach. But it’s debatable when Kercheval says Bielema has had many highs.
Bielema arrived from Wisconsin with much fanfare, but he has posted an uninspiring 25-26 record in 4 seasons with the Razorbacks. Last year, they started well only to finish 7-6 with a disappointing loss to Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl. It’s fair to say that some Arkansas fans might have expected more by now.
There hasn’t been much hot-seat chatter about Bielema. Still, another season with just 7 wins would be a disappointment. That result could turn up the heat on him.
No one is demanding that Arkansas win the SEC West. But threatening at the top of the division late in the season and knocking off Auburn or, certainly, Alabama would help Bielema’s national perception.
This will be an intriguing year for Bielema and his vision for Arkansas’ program.
