Earlier last week, Connecticut hired Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. Now, the Huskies have hired another former Auburn assistant coach.
According to a report from James Crepea of AL.com, UConn has hired former Auburn offensive line coach J.B. Grimes. Grimes coached Auburn’s offensive line from 2013-15. An official announcement on Grimes’ hiring is expected to come on Monday.
He left Auburn to become offensive line coach for former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville at Cincinnati this past season. Grimes’ son, Nick, was also on Tuberville’s staff.
Grimes helped turn tackles such as Greg Robinson and Shon Coleman into NFL Draft picks, with Robinson being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft.
Auburn replaced Grimes with Herb Hand as offensive line coach this past season. Coach Gus Malzahn has not yet named a successor for Lashlee. Lashlee had been Auburn’s offensive coordinator since 2013 and had taken over play-calling duties from Malzahn during the season.
