Arkansas released its depth chart for this Saturday’s homecoming game against UT-Martin, and no starting running back has been named.
The chart lists Alex Collins first, and then beside him in big letters, “OR” Kody Walker. During coach Bret Bielema’s weekly press conference Monday, he said a third back will “be in the mix.”
Collins has been the starter all season, and gained 105 yards on 25 carries last week against Auburn. However, he didn’t see much action after two fumbles and hobbling off the field twice. Walker played the entire overtime and scored twice.
Bielema had unusually strong words when asked about Collins in the postgame press conference.
“Alex Collins pissed me off,” Bielema said. “He was late for breakfast this morning. He’s got so much potential. The only guy who limits him is him.”
Bielema said Collins is healthy, and that there is no lack of durability at the position with depth on the roster. He said Juan Day, a redshirt freshman from North Little Rock, could factor into the teams plans.
Walker returned to the lineup against Auburn after missing four weeks with a thumb injury. Though he initially saw limited action, he got more time after Rawleigh Williams was carted off the field following a punishing hit. He then played all the snaps in overtime with Collins on the sideline.
Walker had 32 yards on eight carries, but his two most important were a 3-yard touchdown in the second overtime and a 4-yard touchdown in the third overtime. Walker, who played with a small cast on his hand, also caught the two-point conversion in the fourth overtime.
