Former Arkansas punter Toby Baker has landed with an NFL team.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Chargers announced that they signed Baker after the former Razorbacks player appeared as a tryout participant during the team’s rookie mini-camp.
Baker, who’s 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, averaged 43.0 yards per punt in 27 games with Arkansas. He averaged 44.4 yards per punt as a senior, allowing him to rank fourth in the SEC and 13th in the country.
Baker joins a franchise going through significant changes. The Chargers are moving to Los Angeles from San Diego. They finished 5-11 last season, the franchise’s second consecutive losing campaign.
Arkansas closed 7-6 last year and lost to Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl.
It will be interesting to see if Baker can stay with the Chargers. But reaching this point after impressing as a tryout participant is a great development for him.
We've signed punter Toby Baker as well as fourth-round pick @Jenks_26.
