After a failed attempt at a professional baseball career, former Jacksonville High School wide receiver D’Vone McClure has committed to Arkansas to play football as a walk-on, The Arkansas Democrat Gazette’s Richard Davenport has reported.
McClure spent four years in the Cleveland Indians’ minor league system after being drafted as a high schooler in the fourth round of the 2012 MLB Draft. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver was originally committed to play baseball at Arkansas before being drafted by the Indians.
Davenport reports McClure had a clause in his contract that stipulated the organization would pay for his college education if baseball didn’t pan out.
McClure visited Arkansas on April 9, Davenport reported. He caught 58 passes for 944 yards and nine touchdowns during his junior season at Jacksonville.
