Arkansas tight end Grayson Gunter had surgery on Friday.
That’s according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s Tom Murphy, who reports that the freshman had procedures done on an injury in his shoulder. Gunter’s father told Murphy the surgery was to “mend an anterior and posterior tear in the labrum in his left shoulder.”
Gunter appeared in 12 games as a freshman, appearing mostly on special teams. He hauled in one catch on the year for 29 yards, and that came against Mississippi State.
The Mississippi native came to Arkansas ranked as a 3-star recruit and the nation’s No. 54 tight end, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
The Razorbacks will be looking to replace tight end Jeremy Sprinkle next season, who had 380 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2016. Sophomore Austin Cantrell, JUCO transfer Jeremy Patton and Gunter will all battle at the position.
