Though Arkansas is still two live mascot incarnations behind LSU, that doesn’t mean they can’t honor the late LSU tiger.
Arkansas placed a banner on Tusk IV cage to pay tribute to Mike VI, who recently passed away of cancer. The banner says “In loving memory” above the name and “2005-2016” below it.

Tusk IV clearly has a huge heart. He also sent flowers to Bevo, Texas’ live mascot, when he was dying of cancer. Mike VI was diagnosed with a rare cancer in May before passing away in early October. LSU wore helmet stickers honoring Mike VI against Southern Miss. LSU hasn’t found a new Mike the Tiger yet, although NCAA President Mark Emmert supports the school having a live mascot.
Though live mascots are dwindling, the SEC is home to a fair amount of them. Georgia has a bulldog, Texas A&M a border collie, Smokey is the blue tick coonhound at Tennessee, Sir Big Spur is the Gamecock at South Carolina and Auburn has an eagle as well.
Although the teams they proudly represent compete on the gridiron, Tusk IV’s tribute to Mike VI shows the mascots are more familial.
