It’s NFL draft season, which means you don’t have to go far to find predictions that will raise an eyebrow. In this case, it’s draft expert Mike Mayock delivering a suspicious take on former Arkansas center Frank Ragnow.
Mayock was on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast this week and, among other things, discussed his favorite first round sleeper for the 2018 NFL Draft: Ragnow, who missed nearly all of his senior season with an ankle injury.
“He can play all three interior offensive line positions. Nobody is talking about him and I think he’s going in the first round,” Mayock said.
No one is denying Ragnow’s talent — he’s an All-American who stood out on an otherwise-pedestrian Arkansas offense. But the interior offensive line positions are typically de-valued in the NFL draft, and there are already two — Quenton Nelson and Will Hernandez — expected to go on day one.
Other mock drafts are split on the issue. WalterFootball.com has Ragnow going in the third round to the Rams, while CBSSports’ R.J. White has the former Razorback going No. 30 overall to the Minnesota Vikings. It seems Ragnow’s stock is trending in the right direction, but anything can happen on draft night.
NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah and other analysts are also coming around more on Ragnow as it gets later in this process:
There comes a time when you have to fall on the sword— Doing more work on Frank Ragnow tonight. I’m too low on him. Better to admit it, correct it and move on.
