Damon Mitchell might be Bret Bielema’s Swiss-Army knife.
Mitchell enrolled as a three-star dual-threat quarterback, redshirted during his freshman season, and switched to wide receiver last year. Mitchell didn’t catch any passes, but ran the ball six times for 58 yards.
So naturally, Mitchell is changing positions, again.
“Duwop,” as he’s known, is moving from wide receiver to running back for his redshirt sophomore season. The Razorbacks will be replacing last season’s lead tailbacks, Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams, which means Mitchell could finally find an opening on the depth chart.
“Duwop’s been good,” coach Bret Bielema said, according to Hawgs247’s Otis Kirk. “If you polled the coaches, he’d probably be the guy we’re excited to see what he does every down as a running back. He’s had a great attitude, great energy, great anything you could ask for.”
Mitchell will get another chance to show his versatility during spring practice. If all goes well, his ability to adjust on the fly could pay big dividends for himself and the Hogs.
