One SEC Network analyst pictures a tough season for Arkansas.
How tough? He envisions a last-place finish in the SEC West.
On Wednesday, Cole Cubelic spoke to Bo Mattingly of Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly and explained his reasoning behind his last-place prediction for Arkansas in the division. Check out part of his answer below.
“Now, this offense is more spread-based. This offense does more things through the air. This team is more built around them scoring points rather than controlling and possessing the football. … I just look at the matchups down the list, and it’s like, ‘How many teams do I think Arkansas is going to be able to outscore if they’re playing that style of football game?’ And I just happen to like their opponents more often than I like Arkansas in that style of game.”
It’s an interesting take, and it’s one not heard often in the buildup to the season. Instead, many envision Ole Miss finishing last in the SEC West after all the recent NCAA trouble involving the Rebels. (Reporters picked Arkansas to finish fourth in the division.)
Still, Cubelic brings up interesting points. A last-place finish would be a huge setback for coach Bret Bielema’s efforts to build in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks have failed to win more than eight games in each of his four seasons with them. They went 7-6 last year.
