It was a rough first weekend for the SEC, but Arkansas could help out its conference with an upset win on the road against TCU.
The Razorbacks certainly will have to play better than they did in their 21-20 win against Louisiana Tech last week, but the Horned Frogs showed some signs of weakness against South Dakota State last weekend.
TCU enters the contest as about a touchdown favorite, but the Hogs are 3-1 against the Big 12 under Bret Bielema with wins against Kansas State (2015), Texas (2014) and Texas Tech (2014) and a loss against Texas Tech (2015).
Here is what a few national media outlets are saying about Arkansas’ showdown at TCU:
- Bielema obviously doesn’t have the Razorbacks were he wants early in his fourth year in Fayetteville, but talent-wise, the Hogs aren’t as behind the Horned Frogs as you might think. Jimmy Burch of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram took an in-depth look at how the two teams matchup.
- If Arkansas is going to pull the upset, it likely will be because Austin Allen and the Razorbacks’ offense figures out how to exploit the TCU defense, which had major issues in Week 1. Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson is known for his defensive scheme, and he’s eager to turn things around this weekend, writes the Associated Press’ Stephen Hawkins.
- Going in as underdogs, a win definitely is not a must for Arkansas, but a good showing by the Razorbacks can be a building block for Bielema’s team. ESPN’s Sam Khan Jr. writes why Arkansas has a shot to show that progress in this weekend’s game.
- On paper, TCU should win this game with relative ease, but both teams showed glaring weaknesses in Week 1. If you’re a fan of stats and numbers, you’ll like FOXSport.com’s preview of this weekend’s contest.
