AUBURN, Ala. — One of the top linebackers in the country is mulling scholarship offers and could possibly delay his decision into the upcoming season.
K.J. Britt of Oxford (Ala.) High visited Auburn on Friday and Saturday, and said his plans to announce a commitment to a school Aug. 6 could be delayed.
“I’m trying to (commit in August),” Britt said after visiting Auburn. “If I don’t, I’ll just postpone it, but I’m trying to (commit somewhere).”
Britt is a four-star prospect and is rated the nation’s 12th-best inside linebacker, released a top 10 in April: Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
He then mentioned five schools by name Saturday: Auburn, Georgia, Stanford, Florida and Michigan. He’s also trying to determine whether he will visit LSU again.
“I can’t even name a leader right now,” Britt said. “Everything is so close. I’m enjoying Stanford, Florida. I’m enjoying those two schools a lot. I can’t name a leader right now. Everything has been picking up a lot.”
Britt’s mind doesn’t sound anywhere near a final decision. He said an iteration of “I don’t know” three times during a three-minute interview about the recruiting process. “Auburn is there,” he said. “They’re always going to be there.”
Britt will participate in The Opening Finals in Oregon July 5-10 after a stellar performance at The Opening Regional in Atlanta. He’ll re-visit Auburn on July 23.
He said his visit to Auburn over the weekend didn’t cover much football. He hung out with Auburn linebackers Richard McBride, Deshaun Davis and Montavious Atkinson and joked and played games. Meanwhile, linebacker commitment T.D. Moultry and cornerback commitment Malcolm Askew bent his ear a few times.
“They say join the family,” Britt said. “They understand. They’re not pressuring me. They know I’m just chilling right now. I’m not in any rush.”
