After a season in which Cam Newton was heralded for being the clear-cut NFL MVP and leading the Carolina Panthers Super Bowl 50, the championship game loss led to a heavy rain of criticism.
Thankfully for the former Auburn quarterback, there’s an 8-year-old that has Newton’s feelings in mind.
Stephen Graham, a young Panthers fan, penned a letter to Newton and offered up a homemade trophy in an attempt to raise his spirits after the Super Bowl defeat.
“Dear Cam Newton, I’m sorry you lost, but here is a paper trofy.”
The spelling may need some improvement, but the heartwarming message is abundantly clear.
Graham told USA TODAY High School Sports it was the least he could do for Newton, who he considers to be a friend.
“He’s my friend. I just felt like it would make him a littler happier,” Graham said. “When a friend falls down, the other friend always picks him up.”
Littler? That’s sure to put a smile on Newton’s face.
