It’s been an eventful few weeks for Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson.
The Tigers’ kicker got engaged, represented his team at SEC Media Days and has grabbed several preseason honors. That continued on Friday morning, when Carlson was named to the Walter Camp Award preseason watch list.
Carlson was the only kicker on the list (that’s something he’s grown used to, though, seeing as how he was the sole special teams representative in Hoover, too).
A trio of Auburn players have previously won the Walter Camp Award: Cam Newton, Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan.
The Walter Camp Award will be presented to the winner in January 2018 in New Haven, Conn.
Carlson headlined the Lou Groza Award watch list and is also a nominee for the Danny Wueffel Trophy watch list. The Colorado, native, was also previously named a preseason first team All-SEC selection.
Last season Carlson was a unanimous second-team All-American and was the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year in 2016.
Auburn has placed 11 players on preseason watch list while head coach Gus Malzahn was named a Dodd Trophy watch list nominee.
Carlson opted to return to the Plains for his senior season though he graduated in three years with a degree in finance. He’s currently pursuing an MBA degree.
