AUBURN, Alabama — Auburn’s top signee and three receivers led a group of at least seven players to arrive on Auburn’s campus Sunday.
SEC Country was able to confirm seven newcomers on campus Sunday as they moved into their dormitories and living units over the Memorial Day weekend. They will begin voluntary workouts with nine players who enrolled January in classes and participated in spring practices.
Five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown, and blue-chip receivers Nate Craig-Myers, Eli Stove and Marquis McClain reported Sunday on campus. Graduate transfer Marshall Taylor, a Miami (Ohio) defensive back, arrived at Auburn earlier this month.
The biggest name missing on the list appears to be quarterback Woody Barrett, who was battling to become eligible in recent weeks. Attempts to reach Barrett and his high school coach were not immediately successful Sunday.
Update (Monday, 2:56 p.m.): Barrett is scheduled to graduate Tuesday, West Orange High coach Bob Head told SEC Country Monday. He said Barrett will be at Auburn “later this summer.”
Barrett had yet to meet SAT requirements in January to be granted admission into Auburn University, according to an Orlando Sentinel report. Barrett and Head would not discuss Barrett’s academic status during a visit with SEC Country in Winter Garden, Fla., in April, though the quarterback was actively seeking academic counseling at the time.
“Yes, Woody is gonna make it and we all feel good about it on both sides,” Head told SEC Country on May 5. “Waiting on his SAT score to return and put this behind us, but he is working hard and plans to be at Auburn in a month.”
Defensive tackle Nick Coe told SEC Country he will report to Auburn at a later date.
Auburn usually does not confirm the arrival of a player until they are attending classes.
At least 18 of Auburn’s 23 signees will be available to begin workouts later this week.
