Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs seemed to support and challenge his head football coach on Tuesday.
Jacobs made some interesting comments about Gus Malzahn during a radio appearance on WJOX in Birmingham.
“There’s no excuse for going 6-6 at Auburn,” Jacobs said, according to AL.com’s James Crepea. “There needs to be some consistency. Gus can get that done.”
After a 12-2 season in which Auburn played for the national championship in 2013, Auburn has slid the past two seasons under coach Gus Malzahn. The Tigers were 8-5 last season and 6-6 this season.
Auburn will play Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl on Wednesday at noon ET.
