AUBURN, Ala. — Before Auburn heads to Tuscaloosa for what should be a massive Iron Bowl matchup, it will get to tune things up against an in-state foe from the FCS.
On Monday, the SEC announced Auburn will face Alabama A&M next Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network Alternate. The game is Auburn’s home finale at Jordan-Hare Stadium for the 2016 season.
The Alabama A&M game comes between two important rivalry games for Auburn (7-2, 5-1 SEC). The Tigers go to Georgia this week for the latest edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. A week after facing Alabama A&M, Auburn heads to No. 1 Alabama for an Iron Bowl that could determine who wins the SEC West.
Gus Malzahn’s Auburn team is coming off a 23-16 win against upset-minded Vanderbilt in Week 10. The Tigers were without starting quarterback Sean White for the entire first half due to an injury, but he came off the bench to lead them to a much-needed home win.
“We faced probably about as much adversity as we faced in a win in a long time,” Malzahn said after the win over Vanderbilt. “We had some injuries, and some guys weren’t able to play … in every year that we’ve won a lot of games, there has been a game like this where our guys found a way to win.”
Auburn’s opponent for Week 12, Alabama A&M, is currently 3-6 out of the SWAC. The Bulldogs opened their season against Middle Tennessee and lost 55-0. Alabama A&M has not played a team outside its subdivision since the trip to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in September.
The Tigers are scheduled to face Alabama A&M in Jordan-Hare Stadium during the same week of the season in 2020. The 2016 matchup will be Auburn’s second-ever meeting with Alabama A&M. The first came in an ill-fated 2012 season, when the Tigers beat the Bulldogs 51-7 in what would be head coach Gene Chizik’s final win with the program.
