Auburn baseball hoped to be special in 2018. Already through with their nonconference schedule, the Tigers and are on track to accomplish their goal.
Butch Thompson’s ball club begins conference play with a 17-1 record this weekend at Plainsman Park. That means Auburn has matched the 1997 team for the best 18-game start in program history.
Though many consider the Tigers’ schedule to this point to be easy, Auburn has a win over a top 15 program (South Alabama) and holds the country’s third-best RPI.
Following its first SEC series this weekend, Auburn is headed to Georgia for a midweek matchup against Georgia Tech and then to Kentucky for a set against the Wildcats. First, however, Thompson’s club will try to secure a conference series win against the No. 6 team in the nation.
