AUBURN, Ala. — Bruce Pearl is not afraid to schedule tough opponents and he added yet another elite team to the schedule.
Auburn has scheduled a home-and-home with UConn starting with a trip to Hartford, Conn., on Dec. 23, a source familiar with the decision confirmed Tuesday to SEC Country.
UConn will make a return trip to Auburn in 2017 for what could be the biggest non-conference game at home for Auburn since it faced soon-to-be-No. 1 UNLV in 1987. The Tigers also hosted No. 2 Pittsburgh in 2006.
Auburn is already scheduled to play Oklahoma in Uncasville, Conn., on Dec. 21, so the scheduling and timing makes sense for the Tigers.
UConn won the national championship in 2014 and advanced to the second round last season.
Pearl has scheduled several big-time home games in the non-conference schedule during his first three years on the job. The Tigers hosted and defeated Xavier in 2014 and also hosted Colorado and Oklahoma State during the 2015-16 season.
