Auburn needs one more win to become bowl eligible, so this weekend’s game against Idaho holds more importance than the Tigers’ typical warm-up game for Alabama in the Iron Bowl season finale. But that doesn’t stop Auburn fans from looking ahead to the matchup with the Crimson Tide.
A fan offered Auburn coach Gus Malzahn a game plan for the Idaho game during Malzahn’s radio show Monday night, so that Malzahn could start preparing for the Iron Bowl.
“I know you got a lot on your mind…you’re working hard, so I’m going to go ahead and give you the game plan for (this) Saturday,” said the Auburn fan who identified himself as Herb. “Just line up toe-to-toe on offense and distribute about 60 running plays among three or four running backs get the job done. So you can start worrying about that one (the Iron Bowl) in 12 days.”
“That sounds like a good plan right there to me,” Malzahn said as he laughed.
Then the coach reiterated that Auburn is focused on beating Idaho this week and not thinking about Alabama just yet.
“We’re focused on this one and we gotta win this one,” Malzahn said. “We’ll cross that bridge in two weeks.”
If only it was that easy, Herb.
