AUBURN, Ala. —The Auburn football team was missing several key starters in its final home game of the season, but the Tigers still dominated their FCS opponent over the weekend.
The shutout was the Tigers first since the 2008 season opener against Louisiana-Monroe and gave them eight wins this season, an improvement on last year’s 7-6 record. Next up for Auburn is the Iron Bowl against No. 1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
Auburn plummeted eight spots after a 13-7 loss to Georgia in Athens last week. Four teams ranked ahead of the Tigers lost Saturday including No. 3 Louisville (the Cardinals fell to Houston on Thursday night), No. 10 West Virginia, No. 11 Utah and No. 15 LSU.
The Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa next Saturday to play No. 1 Alabama on Nov. 26. The Crimson Tide have held the top spot all year, but earned the highest spot unanimously for the first time after their 51-3 rout of Mississippi State last Saturday.
