Auburn football: Another busy spring weekend for Tigers
Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers’ sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.
Gus Malzahn commends basketball team
Auburn football enjoyed celebrating its win against Alabama one more time on Wednesday night just about as much as Auburn basketball did (OK, maybe not that much).
After Bruce Pearl’s basketball team pulled off a double-digit win against the Crimson Tide — without Mustapha Heron (flu) — football coach Gus Malzahn had more praise for the Tigers basketball team.
The entire football program stepped on the hardwood at halftime to accept the Iron Bowl trophy, but unfortunately there was no dancing this time.
Wow! What a game! What an atmosphere!

Basketball heads to Florida
Auburn basketball is heading into the weekend like …
— Auburn Basketball (@AuburnMBB) February 22, 2018
OK, actually, the Tigers are headed to Florida to take on the Gators in Gainesville. Road wins haven’t come easily in the SEC this season (ask Avery Johnson about that) and that will again be the case on Saturday.
Florida’s last two games haven’t been memorable. First, the Gators lost to Vanderbilt and then fell to Tennessee in Knoxville. Before that, Florida lost to Georgia, too. Pearl’s team doesn’t have a lot of manpower, but the show will go on again on Saturday.
Back at Plainsman Park
The Auburn baseball team will be back in action this weekend against a winless Bryant University team.
The Tigers are off to their best start in years, winning their first five games, and will have ace Casey Mize back on the mound on Friday evening with the hopes of earning another victory.
The Friday game is set for 5 p.m. CT and will be streamed on the SEC Network alternative channel.

Softball’s trip to Cali
Mickey Dean’s team is enjoying its trip to California, but split its doubleheader on Thursday.
First, the Tigers defeated Notre Dame (6-2) and then lost to Wisconsin (3-2). The victory over the Irish also tied the program record for wins to start a season (15).
Next, Auburn will take on San Jose State and then will face Oregon State and Long Beach State on Saturday. Here are some of the highlights from the its win Thursday over Notre Dame.

Another meeting with Tide
No 12 Auburn will host No. 6 Alabama on Friday night in Auburn Arena. The gymnastics meet will begin around 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
A rivalry meet with the Tide means that Auburn Arena will be very orange once again this weekend. The last home meet of the regular season also means it’s senior night. Kennedy Finister, Cara Stricklin and three student managers will be honored before the meet.

Let's fill Auburn Arena with ORANGE!
