AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn’s 2018 neutral-site matchup against Washington isn’t just a big-name game. It will also a big-money game for the Tigers.
Auburn announced Thursday morning it would open the 2018 season against Washington at the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta. On Thursday afternoon, SEC Country received a copy of the game’s contract.
Auburn will receive a total team payout of $4.2 million for the 2018 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, which is the most in program history for a neutral-site game. The Tigers received $3.2 million for their participation in the 2015 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Louisville.
Washington is be the official road team for the game in 2018 but will wear its home purple. Auburn will wear white as the home team. The Tigers will be able to host recruits at the game but not interact with them. The game will be televised on either ESPN or ABC.
Auburn will receive 40,088 tickets for the game. Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which opens in 2017, will seat 71,000 for most football games.

According to Auburn, there is no return obligation or discussion for the Tigers to play Washington on the West Coast at this time.
