AUBURN, Ala. — The folks in Las Vegas are expecting Auburn football to do something next weekend that it hasn’t done since 2005.
According to Vegas Insider, Auburn opened as a 9-point favorite for its upcoming rivalry game Saturday at Georgia (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS). The Tigers haven’t won in Georgia’s Sanford Stadium since 2005 and have won only twice in their last 10 meetings with the Bulldogs.
Auburn (7-2, 5-1 SEC) survived a scare from Vanderbilt in Week 10 and left with a 23-16 victory. The game marked only the second time this season Auburn has failed to cover the spread in nine games. The Tigers have covered in each of their past two road games against Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
Georgia (5-4, 3-4 SEC) got back over .500 on Saturday night with a 27-24 road win at Kentucky. The Bulldogs are 4-5 against the spread this season and are 1-2 in that area at home.
A win over Georgia could be a great sign for Auburn’s future. The last two Auburn teams that have beaten the Bulldogs — 2010 and 2013 — went onto win the SEC title and later play for the national championship. Thanks to a Mississippi State upset of Texas A&M, Auburn can win the SEC West if it beats both Georgia and Alabama in the final three weeks of the regular season.
