Auburn football: Good things come to those who run well
Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers’ sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.
Good things come to those who run
When football season started it seemed like the Auburn offense would depend largely on Kamryn Pettway.
As it turns out, the junior wasn’t in the best form when he started the season and it didn’t get much better through Auburn’s first few games.
Fortunately, Kerryon Johnson had been prepping like he was the guy, too and it’s served him well. Johnson was named to the Maxwell Award watch list that is given out to the nation’s most outstanding football player each year.
Through Auburn’s first eight games, Johnson racked up a total of 723 yards, which ranks first in the SEC. Johnson is ahead of LSU’s Derrius Guice and Georgia’s Nick Chubb — and there’s still a lot of football to be played.
To make a good thing even better the thunder appears to be back, too. Pettway looked like his 2016 self against Arkansas last Saturday and will have a few more days to recover before the Tigers start prepping for Texas A&M.

The end of the regular season
Auburn soccer (10-6-1, 5-3-1 SEC) will play in its last regular season road game at 8 p.m. CT at Vanderbilt tonight.
The meeting is critical for the Tigers in terms of SEC tournament seeding. Right now Karen Hoppa’s team is tied for fourth with Tennessee and Vandy. Auburn has the tiebreaker over the Vols, but will need to defeat the Commodores to earn a first-round bye.
The Tigers have beaten Vanderbilt in seven of the last ten meetings and hold a 10-6-4 record in the all-time series.
Seeding implications on the line in the regular season finale. Let's do this! 👊

Auburn basketball practice: All players are here. Austin Wiley doesn't have a boot on his left leg, but he's just watching on the side.
