John Franklin III headed home

When John Franklin III recently spoke with media he said transferring was something he didn’t spend much time thinking about.

Still, things change and the former quarterback and “Last Chance U” star is leaving the Auburn football program. The graduate transfer is returning home to play for former Alabama QBs coach Lane Kiffin at Florida Atlantic University.

Franklin, from Fort Lauderdale, posted this message on Instagram to Auburn family and fans. Gus Malzahn also released a statement Franklin all the best and calling him an “outstanding” man.

Punter in place

Auburn made another important decision when Ian Shannon was named the starting punter on Tuesday afternoon.

This was a position that was very important to Malzahn, who had voiced his concern about the kicking game repeatedly in recent weeks.

Kicker Daniel Carlson will be able to focus on his own job as Shannon takes over punting. And he’ll be ready to roll. Shannon said Malzahn has been especially focused on special teams this fall camp and has put him through situations that will help the Marietta, Ga., native in 2017.
