Former Auburn defensive back Marlon Character Jr. announces commitment to SEC school

AUBURN, Ala. β€” Former Auburn football defensive back Marlon Character Jr. isn’t going far to continue his college career.

Character announced Tuesday afternoon he has committed to transfer to South Carolina. The Atlanta native tweeted the news of his decision, along with a picture of him in a South Carolina uniform.

Character left the Auburn program in May, along with former top-50 recruit Antwuan Jackson Jr. Two sources told SEC Country he was involved in an incident with a teammate prior to his departure from the Tigers.

Character exited Auburn’s spring practices as a second-string cornerback opposite Jamel Dean. Yesterday, when the Tigers opened fall camp, Character’s spot was taken by sophomore John Broussard Jr.

The defensive back will be coached at South Carolina by former Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and former defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson. Muschamp recruited Character for Auburn during the 2015 season.
